Mediation
Family mediation is a fast growing service ideally suited to help you and your partner resolve the many difficult issues arising from separation or divorce.
Family mediation aims to provide you, as a couple, with the assistance you need to reach your own solutions without having to involve the Court. It aims to ensure that future arrangements are fair and workable and are obtained with the minimum of conflict and distress.
Family mediators do not give legal advice but mediation reduces the time and cost of going to two separate solicitors and asking them to negotiate on your behalf. It is much less costly and upsetting than going through the courts.
Charges are calculated by the hour but can be shared between you in any way you agree. Community funding, the new name for Legal Aid may be available. Typically 3 to 5 sessions are needed.
Your mediator will not take sides or make any decisions for you. Family Mediation is designed to ease the process of separation and divorce. It is not marriage guidance.
There is an initial assessment meeting, with a mediator, when any concerns or questions can be discussed to help you decide if mediation is the way forward.
